Navigating Medicare and Private Health Insurance for Psychologist Services

When you’re facing challenges with your mental health, finding the right support can make all the difference.

At Brodie Earl Clinical Psychology, we’re here to make that process as clear and supportive as possible, whether you choose to access our services privately, through Medicare, or using your private health insurance.

Starting with Your GP

The first step towards accessing psychology services often begins with a visit to your general practitioner (GP). Your GP can provide a referral to a psychologist if they believe it will benefit your mental health. They will create a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) or Eating Disorders Treatment Plan (EDTP), which outlines your treatment goals and the number of sessions eligible for Medicare rebates.

For detailed information on Medicare rebates, visit our fees and rebates page.

Private Sessions Without a Mental Health Care Plan

A Mental Health Care Plan isn’t always necessary to see a psychologist. Many people choose to attend privately, either because they prefer this approach or because they don’t meet the criteria for a MHCP.

At Brodie Earl Clinical Psychology, we accommodate both avenues, ensuring that you receive the care that best suits your needs.

Understanding Costs

At Brodie Earl Clinical Psychology, we don’t bulk bill. This means that after your session, you settle the fee directly with us.

If you have been referred under a Mental Health Care Plan or Eating Disorders Treatment Plan, you will be able to claim a portion of the fee back from Medicare.

For those using private health insurance, we provide the necessary documentation for you to claim your eligible rebate from your insurer.
